Pressing & Heat Zones
Qatar concentrated in their own half, with narrow central defensive blocks and limited wide penetration. Rare attacks funnelled through Afif on the left.
Switzerland dominated the right channel via Ndoye and Widmer, with Xhaka dictating from deep-left central areas and Embolo pulling defenders centrally.

Switzerland were the superior side in virtually every metric. Their 4-2-3-1 pressed intelligently in the middle third, cutting off Qatar's attempted build-up through Abdulaziz Hatem and Assim Madibo. Xhaka and Freuler formed a dominant double pivot — Freuler winning duels, Xhaka creating — while the wide trio of Ndoye, Jashari and Vargas gave Qatar's full-backs no rest. Qatar's best moments came from set pieces and the individual quality of Akram Afif, who converted the penalty and was a persistent threat on the left channel, but he was too isolated. The second-half substitution of Okafor for Embolo was tactically astute: Okafor's pace in behind stretched Qatar's tiring defence and delivered the decisive third goal. Qatar will need a tactical reset and improved midfield control to have any hope of advancing.
- Switzerland registered 3.1 xG vs Qatar's 1.2 — the scoreline slightly flattered the hosts.
- Granit Xhaka completed 94 of 103 attempted passes (91%), pulling every Swiss string from deep.
- Breel Embolo won the penalty that led to Qatar's equaliser — then his withdrawal allowed Okafor to seal the win.
- Dan Ndoye created 4 chances from the right flank, the most of any player on the pitch.
- Qatar's only shot on target in the second half came in the 88th minute — Switzerland's defensive shape was near-impenetrable.
- Ardon Jashari (Milan) registered an assist and 7 key passes in his first World Cup start, announcing himself on the global stage.
- Switzerland's 62% possession was their highest against an Asian side at a World Cup.
